News: Conservation works at the Camp's fence
Between 20 and 31-st of October, the Museum's guests was conservation
group from the organization "Arbeit und Lernen" from Hamburg
(www.alh-hh.de). Group of 11 workers,
with joiners, masons and painters among them, under the direction of joiner
master Helge Gross, engaged with renovation and restoration of the first
part of the fence, surrounding the so-called "SS-mann" part
of the Camp.
During the works, wooden parts of the fence were refilled and some of
the bricks were replaced. Integral point of the group stay at Stutthof
was learning about the history and remnants of the Stutthof Camp.
The work was performed professionally. During the days free of work (saturdays,
sundays) participants visited the Malbork Castle and the TriCity. Next
work on further parts of the Camp's fence is being planned. Estimated
term - May, 2003.
The visit has caused really big interest from the regional and local press.
It was also widely commented in the country-wide tv-news programs. The
total cost of the group visit and purchase of materials was paid by the
Deutsche Bank Stiftung (public.deutsche-bank.de/stiftung).
