60 ANNIVERSARY OF KL MAUTHAUSEN LIBERATION

On 7th and 8th of May, delegation of Stutthof Museum including: dr hab. Marek Orski (head of delegation), dr Danuta Drywa, and mgr El¿bieta Grot, took part in ceremony of 60 anniversary of Mauthausen and Mauthausen-Gusen concentration camp Liberation. Participation of Museum's delegation was one of the forms of cooperation of camp Gusen scientific-research team consisting of employees of Stutthof Museum, and University of Bydgoszcz with the KZ Gusen Memorial Committee. Journey and stay of the delegation was financed by the committee.
Participants of manifestation in Gusen had the chance to see in the so-called 'Besucherzentrum', built in the place of previous Memorial, the first part of photographic exposition 'Traces - fragments - reconstructions' devoted to commemoration of the camp. On the request of the social group of memory - Gedenkdienstkomitee, dr hab. Marek Orski, coordinator of research in Poland, has published a study related to the last period of the Mauthausen-Gusen camp, taking into consideration a rich photographic sources and variety of former prisoners' relations. The study was called 'The last days of Mauthausen-Gusen camp' was published also in English.
On 9th of May, the delegation performed archive query in the Archive of Home Office in vienna, Austria, concentrating the research on the Stutthof, Mauthausen-Gusen and the whole system of concentration camps. During the research, a meeting was organised with Mag. Ludwig Zwickl - director of IV/7/a section, Gedenkstaetten in Home Office and group of archivists-historians who perform similar research for Home Office.
